WYCHWOOD BARNS
COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
HISTORY

The Wychwood Barns Community Association (WBCA) was established in 2008 to serve as a conduit between Artscape Wychwood Barns (now operated by ArtHubs) and the surrounding community.
The WBCA creates community-focused events and programming at the Barns to provide an accessible entry point for community members. Previous events include: Boo! At the Barns; event; The Holiday Market; Garlic Festival; Pop-Up at the Barns; Music at the Barns; the pumpkin parade; Black History Storytelling; and outreach at The Stop CFC Community Market.
In 2013 the WBCA organized a community-wide celebration for the 100th anniversary of the of the St. Clair streetcar line and Wychwood Barns. The celebrations brought together; those who had lived in the neighbourhood for decades; those who moved here as immigrants; those who raised families or ran a business here.
Out of the excitement from the attendees and their eagerness to share their diverse stories, the WBCA established the St. Clair Oral History Project, a dedicated website of stories in audio, video, and text formats managed by a group of enthusiastic and committed volunteers.
In September 2021 the WBCA produced Music at the Barns, a fun-filled family afternoon event of dancing; singing and re-connecting with family, friends and neighbours. It was one of the first neighbour events held towards the end of the pandemic.
Music at the Barns is now an annual event and has grown to include a children’s entertainer; food and beverages; door prizes; a silent auction and community tables. Music at the Barns was held in 2022, 2023 and is in the early planning stages for 2024.
