Meet Wychwood Barns Tenant Abdi Osman!

Learn more about their practice in their own words:
"I am a multidisciplinary artist who practices photography, filmmaking, montage, drawing and painting. Based in Toronto, Canada, my practice consistently documents local and inter-national Black LGBT2Q+ communities. As a Black/African queer Muslim Somali Canadian, my complex intersecting identities inspire the subjects that I document. "
"In my work thus far, I have been concerned with representing and complicating the gaps evident in hegemonic or normative representations of Black/African peoples. I am interested in representing Black/African peoples who are queer, HIV positive, and transgender/transsexual to broaden ideas about what Blackness is, was and can be."

We are back with the second edition of the Barns Eco Market – a place where art meets sustainability. After the successful launch of our first Barns Eco Market that happened in May, we are happy to bring back the market in fall that will feature creativity that is rooted in environmentalism, recycling, and vintage! Barns Eco Market calls all artists, makers and creatives who work with local, hand-made and sustainable crafts and products. From organic skincare, recycled paper, handmade jewellery to upcycled electronics, we invite you to surprise us with your unique craftsmanship and get a chance to showcase your work in the historic Wychwood Barns. Wychwood Barns holds a special dedication to environmental sustainability as one of the few buildings in the city of Toronto that operates on a geothermal system. Our mandate prioritizes arts and environment as key values of this community cultural hub. We are excited to introduce a market that promotes this theme and encourages the community to become a part of it.
